Anticipated Public Holidays in the UAE
For individuals residing in the United Arab Emirates, several public holidays are scheduled for the remainder of the current year and the beginning of the next, as outlined by Cabinet Resolution No. (27) of 2024. These observances encompass both religious and national occasions, providing residents with opportunities for breaks.
Remaining Holidays for the Current Year
The second half of the year includes three significant public holiday periods:
- Hijri New Year: A one-day holiday is expected to commemorate the Hijri New Year (Muharram 1). This date is projected to occur in mid-June, though the precise timing will be confirmed by authorities following the sighting of the moon.
- Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday: Another one-day holiday is designated for Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) Birthday, corresponding to the 12th day of Rabi Al Awwal in the Hijri calendar. This observance is anticipated in August, with the exact date contingent on official moon-sighting announcements.
- UAE National Day: The final extended break of the year will be for UAE National Day, offering a two-day holiday. This is officially scheduled for Wednesday, December 2, and Thursday, December 3, providing a mid-week respite.
It is important to note that all Islamic holiday dates are provisional and subject to official declarations by the UAE’s moon-sighting committee.
Beginning of the New Year
The start of 2027 is also set to feature a public holiday. January 1, recognized as an official holiday under Cabinet Resolution No. (27) of 2024, will fall on a Friday. This alignment means that individuals observing a Saturday-Sunday weekend can look forward to an extended break at the commencement of the new year.
