Dubai Police Apprehend Gang in AED 12 Million Luxury Oud Heist

Elaborate Scheme Uncovered

Dubai Police have successfully apprehended a criminal organization comprising eight individuals, including one woman, implicated in the high-value theft of luxury oud from a merchant. The stolen merchandise, valued at approximately AED 12 million, was recovered, and four suspects were taken into custody within 12 hours of the incident being reported. International Red Notices have been issued for the remaining four suspects, one of whom is believed to have impersonated a princess during the commission of the crime.

The intricate plot began with two members of the gang visiting a high-end oud retailer in a local market. They convinced the merchant that a prominent princess was expected to arrive in Dubai and intended to acquire a substantial quantity of premium oud. Believing this narrative, the trader prepared a selection of his most exquisite products and made arrangements for a meeting with the supposed royal.

Staged Royal Encounter

To execute their deception, the gang rented a contemporary villa, engaged security personnel, and orchestrated an elaborate reception and dinner, creating the illusion of a legitimate royal visit. During the meeting, the merchant presented the oud he had transported in his personal bags. The perpetrators then requested that he transfer the items into alternative bags, claiming these were more appropriate for the princess. The trader complied with this request.

Subsequently, the individual posing as the princess arrived, met the merchant, and expressed her intention to proceed with the purchase. After her departure, the gang instructed the merchant to wait while the oud was supposedly returned to his original bags, promising to contact him the following day to finalize the transaction. However, they surreptitiously replaced the luxury oud with ordinary wood before returning the bags to him.

Rapid Police Response

When the trader attempted to contact the individuals the next day, their phones were switched off. Upon inspecting the bags, he discovered the theft. Following a report to the Command and Control Centre, the General Department of Criminal Investigation immediately assembled a specialized task force. Utilizing advanced forensic technologies and surveillance systems, the team launched an intensive investigation.

Within a mere 12 hours, law enforcement officers successfully arrested four suspects and confiscated the stolen oud from an apartment, preventing its potential disposal. Dubai Police later identified the remaining suspects and confirmed that they had departed the country shortly after the crime. Red Notices have since been issued through Interpol to facilitate their arrest and extradition.
